NEW PUMA DISC
Creative Direction, Disc Unit & System Design, Shoe Design, Disc Logo & Branding, Development
Puma first introduced its most iconic technology, the innovative Disc System, in 1991. The technology was often imitated and holds a solid chapter in sneaker history. For The Disc's 25th anniversary, an entirely new Disc system was conceived and designed.
A completely new approach for the integration of the Disc unit and cables into the shoe's upper streamlined the entire system into just a few thin and lightweight layers, allowing for the entire system to be enclosed in a composite mesh cover.
The Disc unit's construction, aesthetic, and branding were also re-imagined to be flexible and modular, with interchangeable graphic inserts that could be customized for both performance and lifestyle applications.
The new Disc system was launched globally in Running, Training, Track & Field, Golf, Motorsport, Sport Style, and Headwear.
It was worn in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio by Andre De Grasse, Akeem Haynes, Shavez Hart, and Jin Wei Timothy Yap, with De Grasse and Haynes medaling in Discs.
Elsewhere the Disc system was worn by Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Rihanna, Rickie Fowler, Jenna Prandini, and Daniel Ricciardo.
