Goal is to define the creative basis for the product and brand to build upon in future phases.
A semi-abstract exploration of the world in which the product will live. A framework within which to design.
The core creative elements and restraints that define the product both inside and out.
Consumers respond to credible stories. We help to define these stories and to build baked-in marketing concepts that can lead to lasting icons.
An open conceptualization process with the purpose of bringing a vast range of unique concepts to the surface.
Fleshing out concepts in the quickest and most effective form, a pencil and paper.
PROOF OF CONCEPT
Iteration through initial hand-made prototypes to arrive at a proven physical model of the concept direction.
Enhancing sketches with color, shading, and notations for easier understanding and review.
Goal is to refine multiple design directions to arrive at the final design direction.
ERGONOMICS and LAYOUT
A study of the how the body and product components will interact, focusing on comfort, sizing, and ease of movement.
Optimization of proportions both aesthetically and functionally. Resolution of details.
COLOR and MATERIAL
Research for and distillation of the color and material concept and usage for the product.
Graphics and textures can be subtle value additions or the majority of the product’s character. We work to define the product’s graphic identity.
Goal is to optimize the final design and bring it to the point that it is ready for manufacture.
Technical specifications for building the product. A key step between the final design and production.
3D CAD and RENDERS
Creation of accurate and high quality 3D models used for both visualization and tooling creation. Presentation of these models in life-like 3D renderings and animations.
A range of engineering analyses including hand calculations, automated calculations, Finite Element Analysis, and material analysis.
PROTOS and TESTING
Rapid prototyping including 3D printing, iterative lab and field testing, and client-approved confirmation prototypes.
Goal is to fully prepare vendors and factories for production, including refined tooling, materials, and testing iterations.
RELEASE FOR TOOLING
The final release packet and preparation for a factory to move to open tooling. Details such as draft, slides, and material flow are some of the many considerations in making a design mold-friendly.
DRAWINGS and TOLERANCING
We provide a series of technical drawings for the factory to work from that is also a contract for final production tolerances.
PRODUCTION TOOLING DEV.
Direct collaboration with the factory or mold shop to refine and finalize all aspects of a tooling or set of toolings for production.
Goal is to define the visual attributes and presentation of the brand itself through logos, guidelines, and packaging.
Logo iteration, font trials and selection, and development of unique graphic elements.
Stationary and digital usage examples along with branding guidelines and specs. Business cards, websites, flyers, and promotional materials.
Presentation of the brand & product in the first touch point for the consumer. Boxes, pouches, hard cases, clamshells, vacuum forms, pulp molds, etc.
