AWARD-WINNING EXPERIENCE

Brand Development / Creative Direction / Concept Exploration / Design Refinement / Mechanical Design / Pre-Manufacture

DESIGN CONTEXT
A semi-abstract exploration of the world the product will live within. A framework within which to design.
CREATIVE DIRECTION
The core creative elements and restraints that define the product both inside and out.
STORYTELLING
Consumers respond to credible stories. We help define these stories and build baked-in marketing concepts that can lead to lasting icons.
BRAINSTORMING
An open conceptualization process with the purpose of bringing a vast range of unique concepts to the surface.
SKETCHING
Fleshing out concepts in the quickest and most effective form, a pencil and paper.
CONCEPT MOCKUPS
Iteration through quick hand-made models to arrive at a proven physical model of the concept.
RENDERING
Enhancing sketches with color, shading, and notations for easier understanding and review.
ERGONOMICS and LAYOUT
A study of the how the body and product components will interact, focusing on comfort, sizing, and ease of movement.
REFINED RENDERING
Optimization of proportions both aesthetically and functionally. Resolution of details.
COLOR and MATERIAL
Research for, and distillation of, the color and material concept and usage for the product.
GRAPHICS and FINISHES
Graphics, textures, and finishes can be subtle value additions, or can define the entire product’s character.
TECHPACKS and SPECS
Technical specifications for building the product. A key step between the final design and production.
3D CAD and RENDERINGS
Accurate high quality 3D models for 3D printing & tooling creation. Presentation in life-like 3D renderings and animations.
ENGINEERING ANALYSIS
Hand calculations, automated calculations, Finite Element Analysis, and material analysis.
PROTOTYPES and TESTING
Rapid prototyping including 3D printing, iterative lab and field testing, and client-approved confirmation prototypes.
MD and EE INTEGRATION
Detailed work with electronic engineers & suppliers to seamlessly blend the physical & digital dimensions of a product.
RELEASE for TOOLING
Final release packets for a factory to open tooling. Considerations like draft, slides, material flow make a design mold-friendly.
DRAWINGS and TOLERANCING
Technical drawings for the factory to work from that is also a contract for final production tolerances.
PRODUCTION TOOLING DEVELOPMENT
Collaboration with the factory or mold shop to refine & finalize all aspects of a tooling or set of toolings for production.

VISUAL IDENTITY
Logo iteration, font trials and selection, and development of unique graphic elements.
BRANDING SYSTEM
Physical and digital usage examples along with branding guidelines & specs. On-product, business cards, flyers, and promotional materials.
PACKAGING
Presentation of brand & product in the first consumer touch point. Boxes, pouches, hard cases, clamshells, vacuum forms, pulp molds, etc.
 MENTORING and ADVISING
Helping startups of all shapes and sizes plan and overcome the challenges of physical product creation.
TEACHING
Workshops, presentations, and demonstrations at top design universities.
